Narcissism is among us - and it is on the increase.
The rate is alarming, especially among young females in the U.S. The latest sample of 35,000 in the U.S. set the rate at 6%. Narcissists are rising in power with increasing numbers in Politics, Big Business, Religions and Entertainment. This is serious stuff people!The culture of Narcissism can take over an entire Nation. Consider Nazi Germany or Iraq. Many are saying that the leader of the U.S. is a Narcissist! Many are saying that the worldwide spread of Narcissism presents the greatest threat of all to to the survival of the human genome! How can that be you ask.? One reason is that Narcissism is the dark secret that few understand or even want to understand.

Narcissism and Politics
In today’s political climate, I think even the “average” American can see the disproportionate numbers of narcissistic people in the political arena…even if they don’t “know” all the details and definitions of narcissism, they recognize the bad behavior. Since we ALL have a bit of narcissism in us (called “healthy” and a sense of self by some), we all recognize when someone else has gone waaaay past normal…”self will running riot” is one way many of today’s politicians can be described.
Unfortunately, most “average Americans” can only see it AFTER the narcissist has been elected and starts doing things that make our jaws drop.
I just read part of an article which rather annoyed me because the author basically says that being IN politics, and having power and privilege, is WHY politicians “turn into narcissists.” I completely disagree…I say the politicians ARE narcissists who clawed their way up the ladder because the political arena is the PERFECT place for narcissists to get away with their crap (and they enjoy stomping on others as they climb the ladder.)
Narcissistic Personality Disorder develops in early, early childhood (before the age of 6) so it’s illogical to say someone can be “made” a narcissist later in life. Oh, people can certainly become liars, greedy, power mad and the like but true narcissists are created very young. By the time they reach the age to run for politics, they are already very astute at game playing and they tell slick lies and manipulate others without batting an eye or breaking a sweat.
Speeches are easy, written by others (who actually ARE talented and good at their jobs) and those speeches make narcs look even better (narcissistic politicans are very thankful for teleprompters.) Better yet, giving speeches means there is NO real interaction with the people listening to the flowery phrases and grandiose promises. The audiences just listen, cheer and applaud. For a narcissist, each speech is a shining opportunity for them…they get to lie, they get to hear the adulation and applause they crave, they don’t get questioned or busted on their bullsh*t and they are the center of attention. Doesn’t get much better for ‘em, no sirree bob.
Makes their hard, cold, empty hearts flutter and swell with a sick version of what the rest of us call “pride.” MOST people are proud of their accomplishments…narcissists are proud to exist and proud of their ability to fool “most of the people most of the time.” Sick.
And worse, once they fool enough people and get elected, they get into office and proceed to break all those promises and refuse to be held accountable for anything they do. And they all know it so politicians are known for not reigning in other politicians…they don’t want things to change. Of course ALL politicians aren’t narcissistic but the arena has way too many and they’re like cockroaches…everywhere, hard to get rid of, they scatter when the lights come on and they can survive just about everything designed to stop them…including laws, public opinion and that pesky Constitution.
And our government is FULL of them…and the dismal state of American politics, our economy and the way that the public is manipulated into hatred, blaming and frustration as a result of these twisted people is abundantly clear to everyone not living under a rock.
From the Definition of Narcissism page: “Although individuals with NPD are often ambitious and capable, the inability to tolerate setbacks, disagreements or criticism, along with lack of empathy, make it difficult for such individuals to work cooperatively with others or to maintain long-term professional achievements.
“With narcissistic personality disorder, the individual’s self-perceived fantastic grandiosity, often coupled with a hypomanic mood, is typically not commensurate with his or her real accomplishments.
“The exploitativeness, sense of entitlement, lack of empathy, disregard for others, and constant need for attention inherent in NPD adversely affect interpersonal relationships.”
Most people's knowledge of Narcissism is limited to the idea of someone admiring their reflection ... DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT!
It is commonly acknowledged that Narcicissim sets in, in early childhood, generally around the age of 6.

This is a pictorial deconstruction of a little known personality Dis-order. This is a little known, deep dark secret within society. Within the last decade we hear Narcissism mentioned much more often than ever before. True crime and fictional crime shows mention it. Court shows include the diagnosis often.
But this is only really, well known by those who got schooled in it through direct contact or those within the Mental Health industry who have made a point of investigating it. This is definitely a subject that resonates within these people.
This presentation could be compared to the styleframes utilized by movie makers. If one were to decide to make a movie of this (which would be a spine chilling thriller), this could be utilized as the foundation of their movie script.
This is real, it is in our World and it is growing at an accelerated pace, like a cancer within societies all across the globe.
